You already know about our affection for Mel’s rhyme styles by the fact that she starred on our Pink Panties mixtape and recent playlist. It is quite a statement of intent for a young MC, and a female one at that, to announce their arrival with freestyle rhymes over some classic and untouchable beats from the hip-hop canon. But that is just what Mel has done, and in doing so is representing the ladies hard, and showing her native LA and beyond that the girls can rock the Mic every bit as strongly as the fellas in this west coast revolution.
Mel has so far chosen none other than Mobb Deep’s ‘The Realest’ beat, Biggie’s ‘Big Poppa’, and Jay-Z’s ‘Who You Wit II’ to rip her flows over. Bold, brassy and wrapped in beauty. But she pulls it off with some panache and style. Clearly a lady with big plans and big ideas, we’re watching closely to see where the Mel train rampages to. So we knew, when tackling The Twelve, that Mel would come correct. We put on our best manners, laid our coat over a puddle and invited her to step in and share a few pearls of wisdom, letting us know a little more about what Mel is all about.
