A true gentleman always knocks twice before entering, and Twelve Bar is no exception. Rule 74 in the true player handbook. There is something quintessentially classic about our Gentleman Knocks tee, and for us the difference between a gangster and a gentleman is simply a few letters and the missing ingredient of class.
A gentleman can always be a gangster if he so chooses, but the reverse is seldom true. When people ask us about the inspiration behind the Gentleman Knocks tee we can talk about the Art Deco styling, the 1960s west coast cinematic and Fillmore poster references, the cheeky tagline and the nod to glamor noir, or we can talk about how we just think that it looks sexily fresh. But in truth, just like he knows to knock before entering, a true gentleman simply recognizes style when he sees it.
So while we ponder further the design references for this tee we thought we’d also bring you a couple of visual reference points that spring to mind when we think of this summertime favorite. From Mac Miller’s breakout ‘Knock Knock’ to Don Corleone’s swagger, and from Doughboy’s take on manners, to the ultimate suave player Mr Bond, they all have a touch of the G to them. G for gentleman.
