That Casey Veggies is a very talented individual has been evident for some time now. Rapping hard since the age of just 12 (we like that number, obviously), Casey began his assault on rap greatness with the release of ‘Customised Greatly Vol .1’ in 2007 and since then his rise as part of the new west revolution has been astounding, and on the way to being astronomical. At this rate he may well be the first Veggies to go into orbit, like some crazy-assed Cold War experiment gone right.
But we digress. An internet champion of the MySpace generation, and catalyst and cohort to a resurgence in West Coast rap that includes his collaborative work with the Odd Future crew, collectively and individually, Overdoz, Dom Kennedy, Pac Div and many others too numerous to mention, Casey Veggies is at the center of something very special. But always with his own unique grind and purpose. In fact, we’re increasingly regarding 2011 as the ‘Summer of Veggies’, as the buzz around him grows to maximum decibels, and following on from his first national tour, slaying crowds coast to coast and over borders. And all the while excelling (as the now familiar story goes) in graduating from high school.
The road is long and treacherous, but so far the steps he’s taken are nothing short of impressive. From the afore mentioned tour to increasing scene stealing cameos, nationwide buzz, and a slew of releases including the brilliant ‘Sleeping In Class’ LP, soon-to-be-released retake on the massive ‘Ridin’ Round Town’, and many more exciting plans afoot. Not least of all further Twelve Bar clothing collaborations. With the backing of the ever-splendid Peas’n’Carrots International crew, the world is increasingly looking like something of an oyster to the Inglewood massive. We chose the equally excellent ‘Other Things’ for inclusion in our summer Pink Panties playlist, another highlight from the ‘Sleeping In Class’ sessions. But for us, ‘The Panties’ will always be a pivotal element of the CV tale, and like the underwear itself, something we always like to hear drop.
