Following their killer show at LA’s Key Club a couple of weeks back, we just wanted to pause for a moment to give a shout out and respect to Res and Talib Kweli’s Idle Warship project.
Idle Warship obviously brings together the strengths of two hugely talented component parts, and yet the combination is much more than just a simple adding up of their skills and musical styles. Instead it is a totally new offering, stretching and enhancing each artist’s admittedly stellar solo talents, a partnership that forges a new sound for each.
Blending hip-hop, soul, funk, rock and electro influences, and with dazzlingly catchy hooks and a story-telling, conceptual approach to the music, the result is at times astonishing. We’ll always love their solo output, but welcome this duo as a real strong addition to their respective repertoires. And live they kill it. Of course our friends at Everybody’s Rival, including Spintelect and KB iMean were on hand to capture the recent date at the Key Club. LA, where Kweli and Res blew the place apart. If you missed it this time, there is no excuse not to get onboard the warship next time around.
