Love him, loathe him, if you are a fan of art you can’t deny that the work of UK artist Damien Hirst is interesting and attention-grabbing. Even if it is of something repetitive and, well, uninteresting, such as his infamous Spot Paintings. These are essentially hundreds and hundreds of images of dots painted in different dimensions, created from 1986 to the present day. And you’ll have a chance to decide what you really think first hand from a vantage point of pretty much any major city around the world, including LA, with the Gagosian galleries’ worldwide retrospective of his work. We’ll certainly be there.
For Hirst it is all about the colors, his spot imagery being all about a self-professed ‘phenomenal love of color’ and trying to pin down ‘the joy of color’. We know what he means, certainly when it comes to deciding colorways for any of our clothing and graphics. You never get tired of working with color. We do know we’d love to do a collab and see how the spots work across the heart logo.
‘The Complete Spot Paintings 1986-2011’ by Damien Hirst will take place at once across all of Gagosian Gallery's eleven locations in Los Angeles, New York, London, Paris, Rome, Athens, Geneva, and Hong Kong, from now, with the content of each exhibition determined according to locality. Visit all 11 locations and you get a signed original painting. And just think iog the Air Miles.
