Unless you have listened to your hip-hop from under a heavy rock for the past 5 years, you’ll be well aware of the rap pedigree of Yonas Michael, aka Y-O, and formerly one half of Inglewood’s super-acclaimed U-N-I duo. U-N-I – Y-O and partner in rhyme Thurzday – were of course one of the most talked about duos of the last few years, with more ‘ones to watch’ plaudits than 1s in their famed sneaker collections.
However the duo have now turned into two singles, and as such Yonas Michael is spreading his musical wings and still gathering critical acclaim galore with his recent debut solo LP ‘Lost In Hollywood’. Merging classic hip-hop with hints of r’n’b and pop, doo-wop and even punk, ‘Lost In Hollywood’ is a typically well-crafted and densely rewarding piece of new wave rap from one of the West Coast underground’s very finest.
So when Yonas passed by Fairfax recently on his way to getting lost in Hollywood, we made sure he punched The Twelve into his GPS before anything else.
