When it comes to knowledge of the golden era of rap there are not many people we know with richer credentials than DJ Evil One. So when it came time to choose someone to select our Code of the Streets set, mixing up the very best of hip-hop from the early 1990s golden era, there was only one man to call with the Midas touch. The result is a masterful mix of classics, all tied together by one thing. They are all surefire hip-hop quotables.
You’ll find Large Professor’s ‘The LP’ jostling against forgotten classic ‘Crewz Pop’ from Da Youngsters. Of course there is some Tribe with ‘Check the Rhime’, and some Biggie on ‘Unbelievable’, but also some lesser-known gems such as Rampage The Last Boy Scout’s ‘Wild for Da Night’ and Sadat X’s solo joint ‘The Lump Lump’. All classics and all golden.
So it doesn’t matter if you’re in your Polos and Timbos, your Chucks and Dickies, or your kufis and Africa pendant. Just sit back and enjoy some of the very best from the golden era, banging out of some Twelve Bar speakers and drenched in the supreme skills of DJ Evil One. Hip-hop hooray.
