In every crew there is the quiet one, the one who sits back and observes, surveying the scenery, only speaking when there
is something to be said, always chatting truth and insight, keeping things real close. Amongst Overdoz that crew member is Sleezy. But don’t be fooled by the chilled demeanor of the watcher, because when unleashed on the microphone the man
that some people simply call “P” spits rhymes of intricate mastery, venomous tales of intimate introspection and lyrics of musical perfection. And all delivered with his trademark sleazy drawl, dripping the raps in suggestive seduction with just a
hint of malice.
On top of all that he is a producer of growing intent, crafting sonic soundscapes of hazed out dub-electronica drenched in delicious reverb. But more than any of that he is just one of the nicest guys you’ll meet. So in honor of the Rise of the DEST,
we sat down with Sleezy and asked him to drip some game and a little DEST dust onto The Twelve. It’s All Love.
1. Who's in the house?
It's 1/4th of ODoz. , Sleezy aka P aka Alex Styles in the house showing love!
2. Can it be that it was all so simple then?
Life was so simple at one point! I miss my childhood like a muthafucka. Everything is so watered down now, and everybody
has a critique and an opinion of shit, that it sucks the beauty out of the simple things, like music, clothing, friendships, and basically life! But, you gotta keep it movin’ right?
3. It ain't where you're from, it's...?
It's who you are!!!! You should always remember where you're from, and what raised you, but never compromise who you
want to be. Change is a good thing.
4. Give me the fortune, keep the fame?
Fuck yeah, fame don't do shit but corrupt people. Make egos big and make people form opinions. When half these clowns
out here don't know the real you any way. But yeah who wouldn't want the fortune? Unless you got it already.
5. After the show it's the after-party, and after the party it's the...?
It's the crib for me. I'd rather watch SportsCenter or play my axe at the end of the night than fraternize with a bunch of people who don't even care to know my real name. Plus I'd rather not hear my girl bitch and moan about me being gone all night. I hate that shit.
6. It's quite okay for a gangster to wear sandals?
Shit I dunno. If gangsters wear sandals now I ain't gon’ be the dude to tell ‘em they can't. Haha.
7. If I ruled the world?
If I ruled the world, who knows what I'd do. That's godly power, that only God should possess. I'd just try to keep shit as cool
as possible. Make sure everybody eating.
8. Do you want more?
It's natural to want more. Everybody does. I want more for my own reasons. Tryna make sure my family and friends are straight. I wanna rebuild a lotta shit in Inglewood, give kids more opportunities they don't usually get living in South Central. God gives more to those who use it for good, and deserve it.
9. How does it feel?
How does what feel? Life? I'm 22 finna be 23. Never saw myself being a rapper, nor a musician. Sorta just worked out that way. I come from a family of working musicians, my grand daddy was a horn player (trumpet) and bandleader, and pops was a percussionist. I'm just glad to be following in their footsteps. All I wanna do is make them proud.
10. What's next on the menu?
For ODoz., world domination! Ha! We got big dreams and aspirations, and we gonna bring ‘em to the light. Just look out for more music and visuals. Shout out to my niggas, ain't nobody more dope to me than them.
11. Give me the reason to want you back?
Shit I don't know who that question is directed to but I don't give a damn if you want me back, I just gotta keep doing me.
And if you fuck with the way I do it, then we can be cool. All we need is understanding.
12. Tell us why it's all love...
Cuz that shit makes the world turn! 4real. You get what you give. So you gotta show love to receive it. If you on some
negative shit, that's how your life is gonna be. Perception is reality and everybody is a mirror. I'd rather just keep that shit
cool with everybody. I be chillin'. Shout out to them London boys at Twelve Bar, always looking out, keeping it authentic.
It's all love.
