Naked on a mountain top, tootin on a flizoot, ridin on a horse drinking whisky out a bizoot, she's got the wings and teeth of an African bat, her middle name is Mudbone and on top of all that…..
Well you know the rest. But we don’t want to just throw insults with our ‘Ya Mama’ Playlist. Instead we’ve used it as an opportunity to explore the ways that music from across the board has paid tribute to the one person we all need to make it into this world in the first place. The result is a set that goes right across the musical spectrum, broad, eclectic, diverse, but always dripping in quality.
You can download the list and do your own exploring to find out exactly cuts have made the selection. But for starters you’ll find one of our favorite soul men Willie Hutch with the beautiful ‘Mother’s Theme’ from the incredible soundtrack to ‘The Mack’, as well as forgotten soul crooner Walter Jackson’s massive ‘That’s What My Mama Say’. Going to the other end of the spectrum are Adam F’s incredible B-Side ‘Mother Earth’, a legendary drum’n’bass record that backed the equally mighty ‘Metropolis’, or Doug Richardson’s jazz-funk workout ‘Salsa Mama’.
But one thing they all have in common is that they are great musical moments, and tunes that we love. Almost as much as we love ya mama!
