Twelve Bar Playlists

Our playlists are an important part of our output here at Twelve Bar. In part a reflection of our influences, in part a guide to what we’re rocking to at present, in part simply our way of showing our love of good music that is at the heart of the brand and bring some of that love to your good selves. So when we hand over the reins you know it must be serious, and to people who also know their tunes inside out.
And that is definitely the case with this week’s guest compilers, the good folks at Jenesis Magazine, rapidly emerging as one of the key digital locations to those serious about their music. We’ve long been admirers of Jenesis, and their unique approach to digging out the best of urban culture, with a strong emphasis on hip-hop culture of course, but also strong editorial views on broader music scenes, fashion, style and more. And all for free every month, delivered to your digital doorstep, and always bursting with interesting features.
We asked Jenesis to choose their 12 songs for our weekly playlist. They dropped a bomb on us. Enjoy the music as ever as you browse the site or download for free, visit to make sure you get your fix of quality (this month feature’s Pittsburgh’s rising MCs, amongst other great features), and above all remember that when it comes to our playlists, it’s all love.

01. Frank Ocean – Swim Good
Got some pretty good beats on this 808 CD, yeah.
02. Pepper – Ashes

Typical strength from the Hawaiian ska rockers. Great drums.
03.The Mohicans – Fa Shiggadow

Massive bass from the Texan dynamic duo. These guys are so under-rated.
04. Dipset – I Really Mean It

Just Blaze. Cam. Jim Jones. ‘Diplomatic Immunity’. No one does it like The Dipset.
05. Jhene Aiko feat. HOPE – Do Better Blues

LA’s Aiko runs her smooth soul in response to Drake’s drunken  ‘Marvin’s Room’ confessional. The beat still kills it.
06. Skeme – Thank God

We’re becoming more and more enamored with everything we hear from Skeme, and think 2012 is set to be a big one for him. Delving in the crates meant this classic from ‘The Statement’ tape.
07. Ro Blvd feat. Thurz – Great Going Good

Cali native Ro teams up with former U-N-I Thurz once more and doesn’t disappoint with the heavy bass and squelch synth. Really strong.
08. Meek Mill feat. Rick Ross – I’m A Boss

‘Self Made Vol.1’ is surely the first part of an ongoing empire. Maybach are killing the game right now, simple as that.
09. Moola Gang – We Gettin’ Money

No surprise to see these ones to watch from the Steel City in this selection. Rapping and producing with style, the crew look set to be getting moola all the way up.
10. Drake – Cameras/Good Ones Go

Sleezy drawl gives way to soulful confessional from Drizzy. Is sometimes easy to forget how massive Drake is. Like absolutely huge.
11. Chuuwee – French Inhale
Sacramento’s Chuwee may have made his name ‘Watching The Throne’, but shows here why he can claim to be a contender in the future.
12. J.Ferb – Lost In Translation

From the excellently interesting ‘Point Of No Return’, Memphis’s J.Ferb is an fascinating artist worth exploring further.

Good music is the driving force behind everything we do here at Twelve Bar.

That’s why we’ve been digging through the Twelve Bar vaults to pull out our favorite tunes for your browsing and
listening pleasure, and keeping our ears to the ground for what is fresh now and in the future. And then we’re putting
them altogether into a delicious musical gumbo and serving you a fresh bowlful of twelve select tracks every week.
