01. Sylvia Striplin – You Can't Turn Me Away
You’ll know the groove from Junior M.A.F.I.A ‘Get Money’, but the original from jazz-soul vocalist Striplin is the real classic. Roy Ayers on production.

02. Erykah Badu – Didn't Cha Know

Erykah’s ‘Mama’s Gun’ album is probably our favorite, and this jam sums up all of the reasons why, just pure mellow neo-soul.

03. William DeVaughan – Be Thankful For What You Got

Is there a tune that sums up a sunny day in LA better than this golden classic. Digging the scene with a gangster lean. We all need a reminder to give a little thanks sometimes.

04. Tom Browne – Brighter Tomorrow

You know jazz-funk trumpeter Tom Browne from his evergreen ‘Funkin’ For Jamaica’ jam, but this mellower cut from 1983 is a slept-on winner.

05. Zero 7 – Destiny

Wrongly categorized as the British Air, Zero 7 truly deserve to be seen as defining their own lane with their take on blissed-out, post-club mellowness. This one is trademark, with Sia on the vocals.

06. Tom and Joyce – Vai Minha Tristeza (Modaji Acoustic Mix)

French duo with a love for Brazilian rhythms, this song is just a beautifully crafted musical equivalent of a tropical sunrise.

07. 4hero – Spirits In Transit

Straight out of north-west London, 4hero have produced some of the most incredible breakbeat driven tunes ever, and this is a prime example from the incredible ‘Two Pages’ LP. Legendary.

08. A Tribe Called Quest – Verses From The Abstract

I had a dream last night, and my man Busta Rhymes came by the studio…Can’t help being funky he’s the funky abstract brother. Pricelessly awesome.

09. Common – Funky For You

Common, Bilal, Jill Scott, James Poyser, Dilla. ‘Like Water For Chocolate’. Incredible.

10. Lupe Fiasco – Sunshine

Built around Diana Ross’ ‘Friend To Friend’, Lupe demonstrates why there was such a fuss around his debut. He remains one of the best live performers we’ve ever seen in rap.

11. Total Feat Notorious BIG – Can't You See

Slow down son you killing us. Biggie on R’n’B cuts was incredible, but the whole package here is irresistible. Bad Boy killing the game at that stage.

12. Thunderclap Newman – Something In The Air

If you’re going to have a one-hit wonder, may as well make it an absolute stone cold classic.

Good music is the driving force behind everything we do here at Twelve Bar.

That’s why we’ve been digging through the Twelve Bar vaults to pull out our favorite tunes for your browsing and
listening pleasure, and keeping our ears to the ground for what is fresh now and in the future. And then we’re putting
them altogether into a delicious musical gumbo and serving you a fresh bowlful of twelve select tracks every week.
