D'evilishly Good

The i-pod shuffle function can be a frustrating yet brilliant tool for those times of musical un-inspiration. We've all had the annoying trawl through the "Artists" list where nothing seems to take a fancy and often, when you use the shuffle, you end up with a similar problem as all the machine seems to spew out are pointless skits or tunes from The Carpenters "Best Of" that have somehow found their way onto it (or is that just me?!?). But sometimes it is genius. The first time I ever used the shuffle function out came Biggie's "Unbelievable" as the first track. Incredible. And today as I wandered reluctantly to work out came one of Jay-Z's truly killer tunes. From his awesome debut "Reasonable Doubt" (do you need reminding? I doubt it) in came the Snoop sample, the Primo beats, and then the story of hustling to live. "D'evils" is a monster, and contains one of the best lines from Jay's seemingly bottomless pit of metaphor and tropism: "So I kept feeding her money 'til her shit started to make cents". Fake hustlers and fake MCs don't come near.
